How to Pimp your Gentleman – 3 Beginner Ways to Fold your Pocket Square

Welcome, Gentlewomen and Gentlemen.

Today, we would like to share with you how beautifully individual and situation-dependent you can modify your Keine Hose Kein Problem Gentleman. When we designed the Gentleman at Land, we had your personal preferences in mind. Now you own your Gentleman, you impressed everyone with class and style – But you want to go beyond that. Then let us introduce you to the basics of folding your pocket square. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

All our Gentlemen come with separate pocket squares, pre-folded by hand, uniquely to your Gentlemen. This is not completely true, though –  the Gentlemen at Sea has a fixed pocket square, folded Presidential style. After all, you do not want to lose it when exploring the ocean and hitting the waves.

But when a Gentlewoman or Gentleman is safe on shore, her or his personal preferences have no limits. And in case you are new to class and style for your (under-)Overwear, we bring to you the beginner folds for your pocket square.

1) The Presidential Square

This beautiful and elegant fold is suitable for any occasion. May it be a casual dinner with friends or a formal business meeting, you can’t go wrong with James Bond’s first choice. The straight bar showing out of the pocket emanates strength and confidence. And on top of that, it is basically the easiest fold there is.

  1. Fold one half of the square horizontally on top of the other.
  2. Fold the top half down vertically.
  3. Fit the Presidential Square into your side pocket, the visible bar should not exceed the 3/4 of a centimeter.
  4. Spice it up: You can rotate the pocket square to let whatever side face the top. This way, you can play with the visibility of the different layers and folds.

2) The One Tip Up

If you like it a little more modern and hip, use the tip;) The One Tip Up – also cold one-point fold – nicely breaks the even and strict appearance of formal attire and emanates self-assurance and understanding of fashion. Its fold only varies little from the Presidential Square, but it immensely changes the eoutcome:

  1. Fold one half diagonally on top of the other.
  2. Along the diagonal fold, fold the left and right corners towards the middle. The resulting width should be a little less than your Gentleman’s pocket width.
  3. When fitting it into the pocket, the folded corners should be fully covered by the pocket.
  4. Spice it up: For casual events, try folding the corners in step 2 unevenly. The elevated cut on one side of the tip adds a nice edge to the fold.

3) The Two Tips Up

This adaption of the One Tip Up is also called two-point fold and, basically, represents a slightly more classy and sophisticated variant. Yet, it is still seen at many black tie events. Impress your environment with this simple but unique fold:

  1. Fold one half diagonally on top of the other, but then split the corners horizontally so they don’t overlap.
  2. Along the diagonal fold, fold the left and right corners towards the middle. The resulting width should be a little less than your Gentleman’s pocket width.
  3. As with the One Tip Up, make sure that when fitting it into the pocket, the folded corners are fully covered by the pocket.
  4. Spice it up: To give your fold an additional, sophisticated touch, try placing one corner a little higher than the other when doing step 2.

We hope you find these first insights into the art of pocket square folding interesting and helpful. There are countless ways out there! However, the above are some of the simplest ways. We will soon bring you more (and more sophisticated) folds to spice it up and to impress people with your Gentleman at Land’s appearance!
